Tom Burns (bishop)

Thomas Matthew Burns SM ( born June 3, 1944 in Belfast) is a bishop of Menevia.

Life

Thomas Matthew Burns joined the Congregation of the Marist Fathers and received on 16 December 1971, the ordination. Pope John Paul II appointed him on 24 May 2002 for military bishops of Great Britain.

He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy - O'Connor, on 18 June of the same year; Co-consecrators were Francis Joseph Walmsley, retired military Bishop of the United Kingdom, and Patrick Altham Kelly, Archbishop of Liverpool.

On 16 October 2008 he was appointed Bishop of Menevia and introduced into the office on 1 December of the same year.
