Tom Leigh

Thomas " Tom" Leigh (* 1875 in Derby, † unknown) was an English footballer.

Career

Leigh came in 1896 from the reserve team of First Division clubs Derby County in the Second Division to Burton Swifts. There, he scored 26 goals in two and a half years in 73 missions and was in the seasons 1896/97 and 1897/98 top scorer of his team. In January 1899 he was transferred to the ambitious Premier League rivals New Brighton Tower, but could not prevail there, and came in just over a year, only twelve to inserts ( 4 goals). In March 1900 saw another change within the League to Newton Heath.

Leigh, the habit had to fist to behead balls often instead, denied in the 1900/01 season as the only player of Newton Heath every season games and had 14 goals in the league by far the top scorer of his team. Although the Heathens for the first time possessed since Henry Boyd in the 1897/98 season again on an adequate center forward, he was surprisingly not longer obligated at the end of the season. Leigh continued his career in the port in the Southern League in New Brompton FC Brentford continued.
