Tom Stern (cinematographer)

Tom Stern (born 16 December 1946 in Palo Alto, California) is an American cinematographer.

Life and work

His first experience in the film industry gathered Tom Stern as a gaffer in the late 1970s. Until 2002 he was also active as next chief lighting technician, he worked with, among others, in the film Road to Perdition in this function.

In the same year he made his debut as a cinematographer with the movie Blood Work, but this did not represent the first collaboration with director Clint Eastwood, because as a lighting star had already participated in One Eastwood films such as Honkytonk. A year later came Mystic River their second collaboration. Other joint projects followed, for the 2006 war film turned Flags of Our Fathers star was awarded a Satellite Award in the category of Best Cinematography. Already for Mystic River, he had received a nomination for this award. For the rotated in the same year the film Letters from Iwo Jima, he received a nomination for the Chicago Film Critics Association Awards. For further cooperation with Eastwood in the drama Changeling (2008 ) Star received his first Oscar nomination.
