Honkytonk Man

Honkytonk Man is an American film released in 1982. Directed by Clint Eastwood, who also took over the production and the main role. The screenplay was written by Clancy Carlile on the basis of own novel, which in turn was inspired by the short life of the Country musician Jimmie Rodgers.

Action

The action takes place in the United States during the Great Depression. Red Stovall dreams of a career as a country singer. He and his nephew Whit travel to Nashville, where Red would like to sing at the Grand Ole Opry. Along the way they take Marlene with. But the goal, the condition of patients suffering from tuberculosis Stovall deteriorated. Due to his illness Stovall must cancel the audition, his big dream to become famous, seems shattered.

Stovall learned in Nashville know musician Smoky. Just so it creates Stovall to record his songs with Smoky. He dies shortly after the recording in Nashville from tuberculosis. But Stovalls songs remain immortal.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun - Times 17 December 1982, the film was " sweet" and " quirky "; and he shall prepare the viewer feel good. The character played by Clint Eastwood figure differs greatly from the from him otherwise played hard men ( " It provides Eastwood with a screen character who is the complete opposite of the patented Eastwood tough guys "). The pictures of the trip was " romantic " and " nostalgic ". The best scenes are those in which Eastwood sing in Nashville in the studio and in front of audiences. Clint Eastwood seems to have a personal relationship with the subject that the film vermittele the audience.

The song No Sweeter Cheater Than You was nominated in 1983 for the Golden Raspberry.

Background

The film was shot in California, Nevada and Ryman Auditorium in Nashville ( Tennessee). He was presented in February 1986 at the International Film Festival in Berlin.
