Tomáš Pospíchal

Tomáš Pospíchal ( born June 26, 1936 in Pudlov, today a district of Bohumín; † 21 October 2003 in Prague) was a Czech football player and football coach. With Czechoslovakia, he was vice-champion in 1962.

Club career

Tomáš Pospíchal began playing football at Zejda Přerov, but soon moved to larger SK Přerov. When his family moved to Telc, he played for the local Sokol. After a short time the family returned to North Moravia and Pospíchal joined Banik Ostrava, the then called Sokol OKD Ostrava.

After just one season, the striker moved to BANIK Vitkovice, where he came even as a 16- year-old with a special permit in the 2nd Czechoslovak league used.

Pospíchal moved in 1955 to army club Tankista Prague to there to do his military service. The team was delegated after one season to Pardubice, where he played as a Dukla Pardubice.

1957 returned to Ostrava Pospíchal back and played there until 1964. Early 1965, he moved to Sparta Prague, where he immediately won the championship. He could repeat this success two years later.

With 32 years of right-back went abroad and joined the French FC Rouen. Pospíchal, active in Rouen as a player-coach, ended his career in 1971.

In the 1st Czechoslovak league Pospíchal completed 239 games and scored 70 goals.

National

In the Czechoslovak national Tomáš Pospíchal debuted on April 21, 1956 Czechoslovakia separated scoreless from Brazil.

In 1962, he ran the World Cup in Chile. In the group stage, he sat on the bench, from the quarter- final, he was part of the starting XI. In the final against Brazil, he prepared the Czechoslovak leadership by Josef Masopust, ultimately kept the Brazilians but 3-1 the upper hand.

Coach

After his return from France Pospíchal took over the fourth division TJ Břevnov. He was coach at his former club Banik Ostrava in 1972 and led him to his first season to the Czechoslovak Cup victory. From 1975 to 1977 he was manager of Škoda Plzeň, then he trained for ten years FC Bohemians Prague, where he became a legend.

In the 1982/83 season he won the only recipient of the championship title for Bohemians. Even then Pospíchal however, had to struggle with heart problems. He suffered several heart attacks and had the management of the team abgegen briefly. In the 1983/84 season he lacked even for health reasons, the first eight games.

His last stop was in the season 1987/88 Slavia Prague.

In 1992, he brought with the help of the journalist and author Vladimír Zemánek an autobiography entitled Fotbal NEMA logiku ( German: Football has no logic) out, it's the same one he attributed quote.
