Tomasz Zamoyski

Tomasz Zamoyski (* April 1, 1594; † January 7, 1638 ) was a Polish nobleman, magnate, an official in the civil service and statesman of the Republic of Poland - Lithuania. As the son of Jan Zamoyski and Barbara Zamoyska († 1610), née Countess, he came to the house Zamoyski.

Life

Tomasz held as an official major offices of state in the republic. He was voivode of Podolia and Kiev. He was also Starosta of Knyszyn, Sokal, Nowy Targ, Rabsztyn, Kalush, Goniądz, Rzeczyce and 1628 Generalstarost of Krakow. 1628-1635 Chancellor in 1635 and Chancellor of the Polish crown.

As the sole heir of his father, he inherited vast wealth from sprawling estates. The headquarters of the noble family Zamoyski is Zamość.

Marriage and issue

Tomasz was from 1620 Katarzyna Zamoyska, born Princess Ostrogska, married and had three children with her:

  • Gryzelda Zamoyska (1623-1672), married to the magnates and princes Jeremi Wiśniowiecki;
  • Joanna Barbara Zamoyska (1626-1653), married to the magnate Aleksander Koniecpolski;
  • January Sobiepan Zamoyski (1627-1665), a Polish magnate, official and officer;
