Tomio Okamura

Tomio Okamura (Japanese冈村 富 夫, Tomio Okamura, born July 4, 1972 in Tokyo) is a Czech entrepreneur and politician Japanese- of Czech descent.

Biography

Okamura was born in 1972 in Tokyo as the son of a Mährin and a Japanese. The father also has Korean roots. Okamura grew up partly in the Czech Republic, partly in Japan, where he worked for garbage collection and as a popcorn seller, among others. From 1994 he devoted himself to business activities, mainly in the travel industry, in recent years in the restaurant business and as an author. Okamura has for some years honorary vice president of the Association of Czech Travel Agency.

2012 were Okamura in politics. As an independent candidate, he reached in the constituency of Zlín in the Senate elections in the first round with 30.27 % the most votes. In the runoff election with 66.23 %, well he beat the candidate of the Social Democrats, the incumbent district captain of Stanislav Mišák region. In the Senate, he has since worked with in the fraction of the KDU- CSL.

Okamura decided after the successful senatorial candidacy in the presidential elections of 2013. According to the company he built for his candidacy in front of 61,500 supporters signatures, more than the legally required 50,000. However, the Czech Interior Ministry acknowledged only 31,750 signatures as valid and let Okamura therefore not to the elections. An appeal against this decision to the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic remained without success.

In May 2013 Okamura founded his own party with the name: " Úsvit Prime demokracie " (Eng. twilight of direct democracy ), which contested the first time in the early House of Representatives elections in October 2013. On the list of many members of the party represented in the parliament as a candidate veci veřejné ( Public thing), including the chairman Vít Barta.
