Tomma

Tomma is a Norwegian island in the municipality of Nesna in Nordland. The name comes from the Old Norse Tommas ðǫmb ( "from" ). On the 137 km ² island of about 137 people ( as of 2001). Most live in the southern settlement Husby. The highest mountain is 922 meters, the Tomskjevelen in the Northeast. Further surveys are the Breitinden (818 m), the Breitomma (803 m), the Rundtinden ( 643 m) and the characteristic Eidabelgen (217 m). To grave hill located in several places - including the largest grave mound in the village of Nesna. The Kvervan called mound grave dates from the Merovingian period ( 600-800 BC), is two meters high and has a diameter of 20 meters. The main economic activities are agriculture and fishing. The island is a car ferry with Nesna, the main town of the municipality of Nesna, connected.
