Ton Satomi

Satomi Ton (Japanese里 见 弴; * July 14, 1888 in Yokohama, † 21 January 1983) was a Japanese writer.

Satomi was born into the influential family Arishima, but adopted by his mother's family. Therefore, his real name was Hideo Yamanouchi (山 内 英 夫). Even his older brothers Arishima Takeo and Arishima Ikuma became known as a writer. Despite the adoption he grew up with his parents.

After visiting the Gakushuin High School Satomi studied at the University of Tokyo, but without obtaining a degree. Some etchings have survived, dating from 1909, which date back to a course with Bernard Leach and which show a pictorial talent. In 1910 he founded with his brothers and the writers and Shiga Naoya Mushanokoji Saneatsu the writers group Shirakaba (白桦). He aroused the interest Izumi Kyōkas, whose pupil he was.

Satomi's novels are characterized by precise psychological observation and realistic dialogues. Among his best known works Zenshin Akushin (善心 悪 心), Tajo Busshin (多情 仏 心), Anjo - ke no Kyodai (安城 家 の 兄弟) and Gokuraku Tombo (極楽とんぼ).
