Cons

• Toner dust ( in dry toner) can be inhaled during the refill process, could adversely affect the health.
• Refill toner can adversely affect the quality of prints, as for example any color or contrast loss can not be excluded.
• Comminuted coarse refill toner can damage the printer roller. This can cause printing problems in the medium term as paler printing.
• A differing from the original commodity melting point can cause too much melted toner sticks to the heat roller of the fuser ( melting point is too low ), or that the toner is not tight enough sticks to the paper and (melting point is too high ) later replaces. Paper jams in the fuser unit or degradation of print quality may be the result.
• Incorrect toner particle size induced hardening of toner on the developer blade leading to pale stripes in the running direction.
• Created by refill toner consequential damages are not recognized by the device manufacturers normally under warranty.
• Some refill toner have a limited pressure range

Legally, the refilling of toner is legal. One problem with the manufacturer of compatible products is the inclusion of patents that are on the original products. Complaints of the printer manufacturer for patent rights violations, however, were always rejected in recent times on the grounds that competition in the free market is nothing illegal.
