Tõnu Õnnepalu
Tõnu Õnnepalu (* September 13, 1962 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian writer, poet and translator. He also writes under the pseudonyms Emil death and Anton Nigov.
Biography
Tõnu Õnnepalu studied from 1980 to 1985 biology ( botany, ecology) at the University of Tartu. Until 1987 he worked as a teacher at a school in Hiiumaa, then officer in the Estonian Foreign Ministry. In addition to his own literary work, he translated from the French. Õnnepalu lived for several years in Paris. Since 1988 he has worked as a freelance writer and translator, an editor at the cultural magazine Vikerkaar.
First Õnnepalu put some volumes of poetry before, to his first prose book in 1993 in the border country surprised and quickly became an international success. The work, which focuses on the contact of two worlds after the political change 1989/92, has been translated into twelve languages. In it the hitherto taboo in Estonian literature homosexuality is treated centrally.
