Tora Augestad

Torah Augestad ( born December 10, 1979 in Bergen) is a Norwegian classical music, contemporary music and jazz singer, conductor and actress.

Life and work

Augestad completed her academic and musical education at the Norwegian Academy of Music Oslo and at the Royal College of Music Stockholm. There she was taught as a singer by Svein Bjørkøy, Torsten Föllinger, Ståle Ytterli and Håkan Hagegård. Both classical and jazz singing stood in the curriculum. In 2009 she graduated with a master's degree in musical singing at the Norwegian Academy of Music with a focus on the work of Hanns Eisler, Kurt Weill and American composers.

Torah Augestad sang in Norwegian Soloists Ensemble " Det Norske Solistkor " 2000-2005. They also sang in his own jazz ensemble " Music for a while ". Their album was released at Weill Variations Grappa Records 2007. She took on roles in musical theater and in opera productions as an actress at the " Teater Ibsen " in Skien and the Norwegian " Riksteatret " ( Empire Theatre). They conducted the " Norges ungdomskor " ( Norwegian choir ) 2004-2006. In addition, she worked with the " Oslo Sinfonietta " ( Symphony Orchestra Oslo) and on the Oslo Kammermusikkfestival. In August 2006, she sang Arnold Schoenberg's " Pierrot Lunaire ". Augestad 1999-2006 was a member of the a cappella group " Pitsj ", after vocalist in " Trygve Seim Ensemble".

She moved to Berlin in the spring of 2007 to work with the Central European new music ensembles including the Ensemble Modern and the sound Wien. In 2008, she took a starring role in a new opera by Marcus Paus, which was based on Roald Dahl's " Witches". In the new musical "The City Terminal " by Håkon mountains it was occupied and in a new version of Verdi's " Don Carlos ", she sang the mezzo- soprano role of Princess Eboli.

In March 2009, she appeared with her jazz band in the main program at the Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau.

Since the premiere of Beat Furrer's opera Wüstenbuch in 2009, she has worked with the Swiss director Christoph Marthaler. 2010/11 it stood at the Theater Basel in the highly successful production of My Fair Lady - Marthaler's own version of My Fair Lady - on stage, in his 2012 production sale at the Opera House Zurich.
