Torna County

County Torna ( also Tornau German, Hungarian and Latin Torna, Slovak Turňa ) was a historic administrative unit ( county / county) in the Kingdom of Hungary.

It was located on the southeastern territory of Slovakia and today's northern Hungary southwest of the city of Košice, Slovak Turňa name is now used as an unofficial name given to this area.

The originally very large county was one of the first in Hungary, but was reduced more and more to the territory around the river Turňa over time. Originally later in the municipality Turňa Bodvou ( German Tornau at the Bodwa, Hungarian Torna ) was the administrative center of the county at the castle Tornau. After it was 1785-1790 and 1848-1859 merged with the county Abaúj, it was finally united in 1882 with this for Abaúj- Torna county.
