Torre de Collserola

The Torre de Collserola is a 288 -meter high TV tower in Barcelona, and thus the highest in Spain. He stands at the edge of the 512 meter high Tibidabo, the highest peak of the mountain range Serra de Collserola in the northwest of the city.

The tower was built as telecommunications converter as part of the Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona (1992). It was designed by the British architect Norman Foster. Instead of the usual for television towers round cross -section of the ground plan of the tower top is a bulbous triangle. The building is anchored with nine thick wire ropes on the ground, which are clamped to the lower three corners of the tower top. With this amplification, it was possible, very slender, with only 4.5 meters in diameter to build the tower shaft, so the play is very light and elegant. Without the wire ropes tower shaft with a diameter of about 25 meters would have been necessary.

The base of the tower is situated on 425 meters ü.d.M. on the Turo de Vilana ( a secondary summit of Tibidabo ). The height of the tower to antenna is 288 meters. The tower basket consists of 13 floors and is located 84-152 meters above the ground and is home to mostly technical facilities. In the tenth floor ( 135 meters above ground and 560 meters above sea level) is a public observation deck, which is accessed via a outside of the tower shaft mounted panoramic elevator.

Inside the tower shaft, another non-public elevator for maintenance is the art bullets.

The tower was opened after 24 months of construction on June 27, 1992.

Another telecommunications tower in Barcelona is designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava Star Torre de comunicacions de Montjuïc, which was also built during the 1992 Olympics.
