The Tosa (土 佐jap ) is recognized by the FCI Japanese dog breed (FCI Group 2, Section 2.1, Standard No. 260).
Origin and History
The breed origins date back to the mid -19th century in feudal Tosa -han of the then Japan. According to the breed standard of the Tosa was evolved by crossing the Shikoku -ken and Western breeds such as Bulldog, Mastiff, German pointing dogs and German mastiff. You may also Bernard and Bull Terrier were involved in the development of the breed. The breed was originally bred for use in dog fights special kind similar to the sumo wrestlers fighting these dogs with the legs and the body and wrestle the opponent to the ground, bite and growl even led to the disqualification. Description
The Tosa dog should be at least 60 cm tall by breed standard, the dog at least 55 cm with a matching weight. His powerful, muscular body is to look elegant. The Tosa is classified as dangerous in some federal states of Germany and Austria, in some Swiss cantons and Liechtenstein. In the cantons of Geneva and Valais breeding, import and attitude are prohibited. In Denmark, he is on the list of dog breed law.
