Toshiko Ueda

Toshiko Ueda (Japanese上田 としこ, also:上田 とし子and上田 トシコ, actually :上 田 俊 子, born August 14, 1917 in the prefecture of Tokyo; † 7 March 2008) was a Japanese manga artist.

Biography

Her early childhood was spent Ueda in Manchuria, where she again stayed during the Second World War for some time. After they had completed a high school for girls, she went in 1935 in which comic book artist and painter Katsuji Matsumoto (松本 かつぢ, 1904-1986 ) in a lesson. In girls magazines such as Shōjo Romance (少女 ロマンス) Jogakusei no Tomo (女学生 の 友), Shōjo (少女) and shōjo Book (少女 ブック, shōjo BUKKU ) she published from the early 1950s cartoons and comics. This was one of the first female professional of mangaka and one of the first signatories of shōjo manga. Ueda worked as one of the first for the manga magazine Ribon. This appeared from 1955 to 1961 her comic Bonko -chan. One of her most famous works she created for the magazine Shōjo Club (少女 クラブ, shōjo kurabu ) 1957-1963 with Fuichin -san. In this manga, which was implemented in 2004 as an anime film, she processed her childhood in Manchuria. For Bonko -chan and Fuichin -san was in 1960 awarded the Shogakukan Manga Award. From 1973 until her death in 2008, she worked for the magazine Ashita no Tomo (明日 の 友) on the manga series Ako baachan. This work earned her the 1989 Prize of the Association of Japanese comic artist, which it was again given for lifetime achievement in 2003.
