Toshizō Ido

Toshizo Ido (Japanese井 戸 敏 三, Ido toshizo; born August 10, 1945 in Shingu, Ibo -gun (now Tatsuno ), Hyōgo Prefecture) is a Japanese politician and non-partisan Governor of Hyogo Prefecture since 2001.

Ido in 1968 completed his studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Tokyo. Subsequently, he was an official in the Ministry of Interior. He was deputy to the long-term Governor of Hyogo, Toshitami Kaihara 1996. As this 2001 prematurely resigned in order to take care of his dependents woman Ido candidate for his succession. The gubernatorial election was held on the same day as the upper house elections on July 29, 2001. Ido defeated with the assistance of his predecessor and LDP, Kōmeitō and Liberal Party among others Toyochika Komuro, previously President of Himeji Dokkyo Daigaku, and Toyoaki Washida, formerly Professor of the University of Kobe. He announced that they would continue the reconstruction policy of his predecessor after the earthquake in Kobe in 1995.

2008 Ido fell nationwide in the headlines when he described a possible major earthquake in the Kanto region as a development opportunity for the Kansai region.

Ido was re-elected on 5 July 2009 with broad support from LDP, Kōmeitō, SDP and DPJ Hyōgo for a third term.
