Tottori Sand Dunes
The Tottori dunes (Japanese鸟取 砂丘, Tottori Sakyu ) are sandy coastal dunes, which extend in the city of Tottori Prefecture Tottori along the coast of the Sea of Japan. After the Tottori dunes also Enka Song (Japanese pop ) is nominated by Kaori Mizumori.
Survey
The sand dunes are a Special Protection Area of the Sanin Kaigan - National Park. They extend over 2.4 kilometers in north-south direction and 16 km from east to west. It is the largest sand dune area in Japan. The sand of the dunes comes from eroded granite layers of the Chugoku region, by the river Sendai (千代 川) were flushed into the Sea of Japan, where the sand has then collected on the coast.
Sand dunes extending to the right and left side of Sendai, but what is commonly referred to as " Tottori dunes " are the 5.45 km ² of Hamasaka dune on the east bank of the river. In the southwest of the dune separates a small lake, the Tanamazugaike (多鯰ヶ池) from the sea.

Agricultural Faculty of the Tottori University is investigating how the desert landscapes of dunes can be planted in Tottori.
