The University Tottori (Japanese鸟取 大学, Tottori daigaku, in short: Toridai (鸟 大) ) is a state university in Japan. The main campus is located in Tottori Prefecture Tottori.

History

The Tottori University was founded in 1949 by the merger of five state schools. The five were:

  • Medical School Yonago (米 子 医科大学, Yonago ika daigaku, founded in 1948 ),
  • The Medical school Yonago (米 子 医学 専 门 学校, Yonago Igaku Semmon Gakko founded in 1945; predecessors Medical College )
  • The agricultural and forestry business school Tottori (鸟取 农林 専 门 学校, Totori Norin Gakko Semmon, founded in 1920 ),
  • The normal school Tottori (鸟取 师范学校, Tottori shihan Gakko, founded in 1874 ), and
  • Youth Normal School Tottori (鸟取 青年 师范学校, Tottori shihan his Gakko Kurayoshi, founded in 1921 ).

The Agriculture, Forestry Technical School Tottori, the predecessor of the Faculty of Agriculture, was first called Higher School of Agriculture Tottori (鸟取 高等 农业 学校, Tottori Kōtō nōgyō Gakko ); the school lacked a degree program for forestry. In 1942, she founded the Department of Forestry and was renamed in Higher Agriculture and Forestry School Tottori, 1944, in agricultural and forestry business school Tottori. The school sought for agriculture on sandy soils since 1923, where she opened a test field on the Koyama - Dune. The Tottori University continued the research, and founded in 1951 new experimental field on the Hamasaka Dune ( Tottori Dune ): Today, the Research Centre for arid land ( jap鳥取大学 乾燥 地 研究 センター, English Arid land Research Center, Tottori University. ).

The Tottori University was opened with three faculties ( liberal arts, medicine and agricultural science ). The Faculty of Liberal Arts renamed itself in 1966 to Faculty of Education, 1999, Faculty of Education and Regional Studies, in 2004 in the Faculty of Regional Studies ( teacher training courses moved to the University of Shimane ). In 1965, the Faculty of Engineering was established. 1966, the current Tottori campus was reopened, and the faculties ( except medicine) moved into the campus has to offer.
