History

Toulaud is a very old church. The name comes from the Gallic language Toulaud, toul is derived from tol what " collection " meant. In the district of Les Fonts (Latin fons meaning " source " ) were remnants of walls, coins and shards found in Gallo-Roman times. In the district Vocances 1969, the foundations of a building were found, which showed traces of fire. There, they found shards from the time of Tolosan empire of the Visigoths ( 418-507 ), which were mixed with older shards from Gallo-Roman times. It is possible that the capital has been moved to the invasion of the Visigoths in the 6th or 7th century on the hill. Toulaud was mentioned in documents as Toulau for the first time 940

In the 12th and 13th centuries belonged to the Benedictine monastery of Toulaud Soyons. In the hamlet La Seauve the Benedictines built even a convention ( open living area abbot of a monastery without ), whose large fireplace from the 12th century is still preserved.

During the Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) the population was decimated by the plague in 1348, and the place ransacked in 1374. The monastery and the convent of La Soyons Seauve were abandoned. 1430 again broke from fighting and the villagers barricaded themselves against troops from Burgundy.

1531 the area was again ravaged by the plague, which they tried to fight with the burning of gunpowder and juniper berries. 1543 was followed by the leprosy, and two quarantine stations near Saint- Péray have been established.
