Toumour

Region

Toumour is a rural municipality in the department of Bosso in Niger.

Geography

Toumour located in the Sahel region northeast of the regional capital Diffa. The neighboring municipalities are Kabléwa in the north, east and south, and Bosso Gueskérou in the West. The municipality is divided into the administrative village Toumour and the water point Kakarawa. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Toumour.

History

Toumour belonged to a nationwide administrative reform in 2002 for Canton Bosso, whose territory was divided among the rural communities and Bosso Toumour. Since 2011, the rural communities do not belong to the department of Diffa, but for the newly created Department Bosso.

Population

At the 2001 census Toumour had 946 inhabitants. For the year 2010 1.292 inhabitants were calculated. Toumour making it the smallest municipality in terms of population of Niger. Located in the capital live almost exclusively sedentary Fulani, semi- sedentary and nomadic Fulani in the surrounding area. Toumour is the seat of a powerful Fulbe leader.

Economy and infrastructure

The majority of the community is located in an area in which predominates the rainfed agriculture. In the north- west zone of Agropastoralismus begins.
