Tour du Faso

The Tour du Faso is an annual cycling tour through the West African country of Burkina Faso, which was organized from 2001 to 2008 by the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO ), which is also responsible for hosting the Tour de France. The track has eleven stations and covers 1305 km (2006). The Tour du Faso has launched for Africa scored the same as the Tour de France for Europe and in 2011 for the 25th time. The prize money of the tour was in 2500 euros for the team of 27 -year-old winner Zidweiba. The total cost of the tour amounted to more than 500,000 euros for 15 participating teams of six riders on 10 stages with a total of about 1280 miles and were mainly borne by government organizations.

2011 saw the launch thanks to the department of tomorrow for the first time since 1996, again a German team, which was specially formed for this purpose, in this African road race.

The 2012 edition of the race was overshadowed by a death: The Belgian Gunther Cuylits died a few hours after the award ceremony of the tour, where he had become eighth in the overall standings, in a restaurant in Ouagadougou on a cardiac arrest.
