Tourism in Namibia

Tourism in Namibia plays an important role in the economy of the South West African country of Namibia. Tourism contributed 2010 14 % of GDP and is therefore - according to the mining industry - the country's second most important industry. More than 11 billion Namibian dollars have been implemented.

The supervisory authority for all providers of tourism services in Namibia and marketing organization in the country is the Namibia Tourism Board, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.

Background

In addition to the Namibia Tourism Board as the umbrella organization of the Namibian tourism sector play more, besides the national airline Air Namibia, organizations and associations play an important role.

Namibia presents itself as a tourist destination to many international and regional fairs such as ITB in Berlin, the Tourism Indaba in Durban (South Africa ) and the Namibia Tourism Expo in Windhoek. Tourist training takes place in establishments themselves for the most part. In addition, there are formal courses at the Polytechnic of Namibia, as well as courses through the " Namibian Academy for Tourism and Hospitality " ( NATH ).
