Townend-Ring
A Townend ring is a cowling ( cowling ) for a radial engine. Here, an aerodynamically shaped ring is mounted above the cylinder heads of the engine. This ensures a defined air flow through the engine and the reduction of turbulence, without deteriorating the cooling thereby.
It is named after its developer Hubert Townend.
The idea of the Town Dringes was completed with the NACA hood. Town Penetrate no longer apply today. They only came in the 1920s and 1930s for use.
