The Blue neck herb ( Trachelium caeruleum ) is a plant from the family of the bellflower family ( Campanulaceae ).

Features

The Blue neck herb is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches the plant height of 60 to 100 centimeters. The evergreen species forms a Pleiokorm root. The stem is erect, glabrous, wenigblättrig and reddish. The leaves are ovate to broadly lanceolate, up to 7 inches long, pointed and double perforated. The upper leaves are sessile. The inflorescence is a loose, flat or hemispherical corymb with a diameter of up to 30 centimeters. The crown is blue, pale purple, or more rarely white.

Occurrence

The Blue neck herb comes in the western Mediterranean on old walls at altitudes 0-1600 meters in front. In Italy, the species was naturalized.

Use

The species is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens. It is in culture at least since 1640. There are some varieties.
