Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree

The Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree is done annually on the first Tuesday in December since 1947 in Trafalgar Square, London. The Christmas trees from Norway are mostly over 25 feet tall and are passed as thanks Norway for the support of Britain in World War II in official events in Norway and London.

The spruce trees are decorated with fairy lights from 500 individual lights in the tradition of Norway in white and red, the lights are arranged vertically, giving the tree a special character. To celebrate the occasion of the preparation of these Christmas trees in London, the Mayor of Oslo and the Norwegian Ambassador and Westminster are present, in which the Mayor of Westminster carrying his splendor uniform.

Thousands of people gather in London each year in Trafalgar Square when the lights on the high spruce lit for the first time. The Christmas tree was erected in 2010 on December 2, and for this occasion not only songs were sung, but students contributed poems by British and Norwegian poets before the theme of peace. Texts of the poems were mounted on banners at the guardrail before the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree. The Christmas tree is erected in Trafalgar Square, and there are members of more than 40 charities traditional carols sung, collect donations for people in need until 5 January 2010.
