The Awtomagistrala " Trakija " or Awtomagistrala A1 ( Bulgarian Автомагистрала А1 " Тракия " to German motorway A1 Thrace ) is a highway in southern Bulgaria. You verbindent the Bulgarian capital Sofia with the Black Sea city of Burgas. An extension across the Sofiaebene, from the Serbian- Bulgarian border at Kalotina on the Sofia ring road is up to Sofia still in the planning stage, as well as a planned connection southwestward to the Macedonian M2 motorway and from there to the Albanian cities of Durres and Vlora as part the Pan-European Transport corridor No. VIII

The highway is named after the historic landscape Thrace ( Southeast Bulgaria ), which they also crosses and approximately follows the route of the ancient Via Militaris.

Construction of the highway began in 1974 and ended in 2013 - after 39 years of construction. The first section between Sofia and Plovdiv was completed in 1985, 1995, she grew up Orizovo, 2006, the section between Burgas and Karnobat was put into operation in early 2007 by then Orizovo to Chirpan by the end of 2007 for an extension until after Stara Zagora. The construction of the rest of the track took place after the EU accession of Bulgaria in the years 2010-2013 with financial support from EU funding.

Road

The highway begins at the motorway junction Wranja ( bugl. Враня ) on the Sofia ring road and extends southeastward direction Novi Chan, Wakarel and Ichtiman. At km 55 there is the 900 m long tunnel Trayanowi Wrata ( Bulg тунел " Траянови врата ", dt tunnel " Thracian Gate", named after the fortress near ), each with a driving tube for both directions of the Ichtiman surveys runs. There is also the boundaries between Sofia and Thrace regions. After the tunnel, the highway bends to the east and passes near Kaluregowa, Pazardzhik and Plovdiv. In Plovdiv three highway exits are built. In Plodowitowo the Maritsa motorway branches in south-easterly direction, the Thrace highway runs past the village to the northeast and runs west of Chirpan. At kilometer 177, the exit is to Stara Zagora, then the highway runs for approximately 5 km south of Nova Zagora, as well as to the north of Yambol. From Yambol now in an easterly direction it leads past Karnobat and flows 7 km from Burgas to the European Route 773
