Trancoso (Bahia)

Trancoso is a district of Porto Seguro in the state of Bahia in Brazil.

History

The place is located in the south of Bahia and has its origin in a settlement of the Jesuits with the church of São João Batista dos Índios, which was built in 1586. The site was rediscovered in the 1970s by hippies. At this time the place was still made up an avenue, with houses on either side of the historic church in the background - and uninterrupted views of the sea.

Today this place is the historic center of Trancoso. With the beginning of tourism in the 1990s, the construction of infrastructure, roads and new houses increased steadily, so Trancoso has now grown to a larger spot on the coast.
