Transamerica Pyramid

The Transamerica Pyramid is a symbol of San Francisco. With 260 meters and 48 storeys with retail and office spaces, it is the tallest building in San Francisco. Construction on the building began in 1969 and ended in 1972. The building's architect is William Pereira. In addition to the lobby on the ground floor of the building to the public is not accessible.

The building has the shape of a pointed pyramid with two attached wing-like devices that are intended to stabilize the building against earthquakes. The " east wing " contains an elevator shaft while in the western "wing" a staircase is housed. From 1972 to 1974, the Transamerica Pyramid was the tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi, but was eventually surpassed by the Aon Center in Los Angeles.
