Transmissometer
A transmissometer is an optical instrument to determine a dust or gas concentration.
Principle of measurement
Here, a measurement volume is illuminated by a light beam. The attenuation of the light is a measure of the concentration of dust, the gas ( by using light with a suitable wavelength ), or a liquid into the measurement volume. The rate of the transmission
The transmission can only answer a number between 0 and 1. = 1 → no damping, called for dust measurement as "smoke- free"
In practice, the transmission is usually given in percent:
Applications
Practical application finds the Transmissometrie mainly in industrial metrology and environmental for the measurement of pollutants in exhaust gases.
- Eg emission measurement in accordance with environmental laws ( in Germany. eg 13/17/23 BImschG or TA -Luft).
- SCHLUMOSED measures the temporal course of the transparency for the separation of sludge from waste water.
- In air transport, this unit is designed for the measurement of visual range ( RVR) in use.
