Trauzl lead block test

The lead block test after Trauzl is an empirical comparison test to assess the explosive force of explosive substances. The measured quantity is the lead block expansion after the explosion of a sample inside a lead block.

The indicator was developed by Isidor Trauzl and indicates by how much the volume of a predefined cavity increases during ignition of a certain quantity of an explosive in a lead block of 200 mm diameter and 200 mm height. For this purpose, 10 g of the explosive to be ignited in a bore of 125 mm depth and 25 mm in diameter with a detonator. The tamped with quartz sand hole is then cleaned and measured the resulting volume with water. The unit is cm ³ / g

The lead block test after test F.3 Trauzl as part of the testing scheme for the classification of explosives of Class 1 in accordance with the Technical Instructions.

Other comparison criteria are the TNT equivalent and the sand test.
