The German -Polish neighborhood Treaty ( officially Treaty between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Poland on Good-neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, Polish treatise między Rzeczypospolita Polska Republika Federalną a Niemiec o dobrym sąsiedztwie i przyjaznej współpracy z 17.06.1991 r. ) Was on June 17 signed in 1991 in Bonn by Helmut Kohl, Hans Dietrich Genscher, Jan Krzysztof Bielecki and Krzysztof Skubiszewski. It complements negotiated in the fall of 1990 German - Polish Border Treaty, which was one of the conditions from the Allies for German reunification.

Both treaties were ratified by the parliaments of the end of 1991 and became effective on January 16, 1992 in force.

In June 2011, the German and the Polish government in Warsaw adopted a joint statement on the 20th anniversary of the German - Polish neighborhood contract. This put both sides on a future even closer partnership to " continue the process of reconciliation between Germans and Poles ."

Plans include the development of youth exchanges and scientists. The Polish-born Germans and the German minority in Poland are to be supported in maintaining their cultural identity and their native language. A further aim is to improve the traffic routes between the two countries, and a close partnership in the EU and at international level.
