Krzysztof Skubiszewski

Krzysztof January Skubiszewski ( born October 8, 1926 in Poznan, † February 8, 2010 in Warsaw) was a Polish politician and lawyer specializing in the field of international law.

Life

Skubiszewski first graduated from law school at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, before he then trained at the Universities of Nancy and Harvard. In 1973 he became a professor at the Institute of State and Law of the Polish Academy of Sciences ( PAN) and the mid-1990s professor at the Polish Academy of knowledge. He also belonged to as a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Political offices

From 1989 to 1993 he was a Polish foreign minister in the governments under the Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki, Jan Bielecki Jan Olszewski, Waldemar Pawlak and Suchocka. In 1994 he became chairman of the Iranian -American Court of Arbitration in The Hague.

Awards

He was an honorary doctor of several universities, support of the top Polish and international awards, including the Order of Merit. The American Society of International Law in 1991 appointed him an honorary member. Together with Hans -Dietrich Genscher, he was awarded the prestigious award of the Foreign Ministers of Poland and Germany, which was established in 1993.
