History

The Trechirgau was closely associated with the Maifeldgau. The main town was in Treis an der Mosel. The area around Treis is known as Trigorium documented. The district was administered by the Count. As Gaugrafen in Trechirgau the Berthold / Beceline are proved extinct at the end of the 11th century. 1112 Adalbert is called as Count in Trechirgau. The further history of the Trechirgaues is unclear. Parts of the district appear later among others owned by the Count Palatine of the Rhine, the Counts of Virneburg, the Counts of Sponheim and the Electorate of Trier.
