Treixedo is a comune ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese municipality of Santa Comba Dão. 993 inhabitants live in it (as at 30 June 2011).
History
Treixedo was first mentioned in the year 974, it received its first city charter in 1102, during the Neubesiedlungsbemühungen after the Reconquista and the associated asset destruction and displacement in the area. King Manuel I renewed 1514 city rights, and Treixedo remained an independent circuit until its dissolution and annexation to the district of Santa Comba Dão 1836.
Culture and sights
Among its monuments Igreja Matriz de Treixedo the church (also Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção ) to name from the early 18th century, the 122 -meter-long railway bridge made of metal, and the remains of Schandpfahls ( Pelourinho ) from the 16th century.
