Trekroner Fort

Trekroner (Danish: " Three Crowns" ) is an artificial island in front of the harbor of Copenhagen, Denmark, in the Sound. She was one of the defenses of the city harbor and the city itself Originally the island was about 200 meters north of the current position, where in 1713 as the basis of the island's three old battleships were sunk. One of them bore the name of Tre Kroner, where the island got its name.

Work on the plant at the current position began in 1787. Built there Fort played a major role in the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801 and the British attack on Copenhagen in 1807. After the fort was further expanded in the 19th century, it lost at the beginning of 20th century military importance and was abandoned in 1932.

1934, the fort was sold to the Copenhagen port authority and to the destination. During the German occupation of Denmark in World War II it was used by the German army as a barracks. Then it stood empty until it was opened to the public again in 1984.

The island has the shape of a westward open triangle is 2 acres in size and has 1 inhabitants (1 January 2013).
