Silver ear ( Tremella Fuciformis )

Called The Silver ear ( Tremella Fuciformis ), also called " White Fungus " or "Snow Fungus " is a Japan and China highly valued medicinal and edible mushroom.

Appearance

The fruiting bodies are white or pale yellowish and translucent. They consist of several leaf -like lobes that are 5-15 inches long, 4 to 12 inches wide and only 0.5 to 0.6 millimeters thick. The fruiting body is hard and brittle when moisture of gelatinous consistency, with dryness.

Occurrence and distribution

The fungus grows in tropical and sub-tropical climates mainly mango wood. In most Asian countries, the fungi are grown on wood substrate and arrive in dried form in the trade. In Germany they are offered occasionally.

Feed value

In Chinese cooking, the mushrooms are occasionally used mostly because of its slightly sweet taste in sweet soups and desserts with fruit, even as a drink. For the European taste it fits into wok dishes with vegetables or clear soups.

Medical Application

In Chinese medicine, the silver stud in tuberculosis, colds and high blood pressure is administered, continue hepatoprotective and antidiabetic effects have been reported. Applied is usually the dried and powdered fruit body.
