Tréouergat

Tréouergat ( Breton: Treouergad ) is a commune with 316 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Finistère in the Brittany region. It is in relation to its population by the smallest municipality in the canton Ploudalmézeau. Regarding the surface only Lanildut is slightly smaller. Tréouergat belongs to the Communauté de communes du Pays d' Iroise.

Geography

The municipality is located in approximately twelve kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, about 15 kilometers north of Brest.

History

The municipality was formerly part of the neighboring municipality Plouguin. Previous names denominated Treffgouescat ( 1389 ), Treffgoezcat ( 1467 ), Treffgouezcat ( 1611), Trefgouergat ( 1641 and 1696 ), Tréouergat or Trefgouescat (1697 ).

During the Second World War there were in Tréouergat a not insignificant group of the Resistance (FFI ), which was involved in the liberation of the city of Brest. This group, which included 164 Russians, was built in 1965 a monument in Kergoff.
