Trevallyn Dam

The Lake Trevallyn is a reservoir in the north of the Australian state of Tasmania.

It is located in the western outskirts of the city of Launceston on the South Esk River. Its surface is 1.48 km ² and its water content is at full back 12.33 million m³.

The Trevallyn Dam, a gravity dam was built in 1955, is 177 m long and has a volume of 61,000 m³. The crown height is 33 m, the outlet height 26.8 m.

At the dam, most of the Wasses from the South Esk River is fed into a 3.2 km long tunnel to the Trevallyn power station, where electricity for the city of Launceston and its surroundings is produced. From there it is routed in the Tamar River. Only the overflow water flows through the Cataract Gorge, the old river bed of the South Esk River, the Tamar River.
