Trikomo, Cyprus

Trikomo, Greek Τρίκωμο, Turkish İskele, is a town of about 4,500 inhabitants ( 2005 estimate ) in the district of Famagusta on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.

The city is part of international law, the Republic of Cyprus, but is managed since 1974 by the internationally recognized only by Turkey Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and is capital of the district İskele.

The Turkish name " İskele " ( German " boat landing " from the Greek " scale ", coming from the Italian ) or " Yeni İskele " ( "New İskele " ) is reminiscent of the eponymous district of Larnaca in the Greek part of the country, from the Turkish Cypriots 1975 had to flee in the Cyprus conflict, which then settled in Trikomo.

Attractions

  • The church of Agios Iakovos ( St. Jacob ) from the 15th century. The cross-domed church has porcelain tiles, as they are usually found only in Portuguese churches. She is one of the smallest churches in Cyprus.
  • The church of Panagia Theotokos ( All-Holy Mother of God ) from the 12th century. It is only 300 meters from the Agios Iakovos Church.
