Trimyristin is a component of vegetable oils and fats. The compound belongs to the group of the fatty acid esters of glycerol ( glycerol ) of the triacylglycerols.
History
From the nutmeg butter, the fat obtained by pressing seeds of the nutmeg tree ( Myristica fragrans ), a substance was obtained which as glycerol esters of Tetradecancarbonsäure ( myristic acid ) was found, and was therefore called trimyristin.
Occurrence
The seed fat therefore constitutes oddity, as among the usually mixed triglycerides ( triacylglycerols ) to connect to a very large proportion occurs. Therefore, it could be easily isolated. Trimyristin occurs not only in nutmeg family ( Myristicaceae ), but ( in a smaller proportion ) in the fats and oils of many other plant families.
