Triolein (also trioleate, glycerol trioleate, Ölsäureglycerid or glycerol triesters of oleic acid ) is a chemical connection. It is a triglyceride with oleic acid and is one of the fatty oils.
Occurrence
Triolein is present in almond oil, olive oil, lard, and many other oils of animal and vegetable origin.
Production and representation
Triolein can be obtained by esterification of oleic acid or of natural oils.
Use
Triolein is used as a lubricant and emulsifier for textiles and cosmetics. The hydrogenation in hexane yields tristearin.
