Tripletail

Lobotes surinamensis

The three- tail perch ( Lobotidae ) are found worldwide in tropical, coastal seas, and in East Asia in brackish and fresh waters. The family consists of three, not very similar genera that are often raised in the family status (eg Fishbase ), according to recent studies, however, form a common clade.

Features

They are 11-110 cm long and have a high-backed body that has a light brown or whitish color and is provided in the genera Datnioides and Hapalogenys with wide dark stripes. The caudal fin is rounded in the genera Datnioides and Lobotes the far back seats dorsal and anal fin, so as to give the impression of three tails.

Fins formula: Dorsal VI-XII/13-19, Anal III/8-18.

The two species of the genus Lobotes resemble floating in the water leaves ( mimicry ) and can be floating around passively with the waves. They escape only when one has approached a few centimeters.
