Trocundus

Flavius Appalius Illus Trocundes († 485 ) was an East Roman general Isaurian origin, who played an important role in the reign of Emperor Zeno and Basiliscus.

Trocundes supported along with his brother Illus the revolt of Basiliscus against Zeno, but then switched sides to allow Zenon the return from exile ( 475-476 ). Appointed by Zenon 479 as the successor of Theodoric Strabo for Master of the Soldiers praesentalis and patricius, Trocundes was instrumental in the defeat of the usurper Marcian, and his detention in Isauria. 482 he held the consulate. As Illus 484 revolted against Zeno and Leontius proclaimed the anti-emperor, Trocundes also joined in the revolt. In an attempt to relieve the trapped in the mountain fortress of the Isaurian Papyrios rebels, he was captured by John Scytha and killed.
