Trolleybuses in Vilnius

The trolleybus Vilnius is one of two trolleybus systems in Lithuania. The larger network in the capital Vilnius is by the transport undertaking UAB Vilniaus viešasis transportas, a successor company of UAB Vilniaus troleibusai led. History

1956, the company was officially founded. In Oberleitungsbusdepot located in Antakalnis, were at that time 20 trolleybuses. The first track was 7.8 km long and led Antakalnis to Vilnius railway station. It was opened on November 3, 1956. Seven type cars MTB - 82D were at that time on this route in operation.

A year later, the second distance between Zverynas and the station was opened. 1960 Vilniaus troleibusai began with the purchase of new trolleybuses of the type 8tr, who was a few years later replaced by the successor Series Škoda 9TR. Thus in 1961 there were already 120 trolleybuses in stock.

In the following years, more new routes were established. In 1967 there were already 13 lines with a total length of 217 kilometers. Due to the increasing passenger numbers and growth of the city of Vilnius, the number of trolleybuses constantly grew. So it was in 1967 already 159 trolleybuses in 1982 there were already 278 Due to lack of space in Oberleitungsbusdepot in Antakalnis, had to be built a second depot. On December 25, 1985, the catenary depot in Viršuliškės was built. At that time already perverted 297 car.

From 1982 Vilniaus troleibusai began with the modernization of the fleet. It began with the purchase, the modern in his time trolleybuses, Škoda 14Tr. In the years 1996 and 1997, the operating bought an additional 60 trolleybuses of the type Škoda 14Tr. Two years later, in 1999, you bought 23 trolleybuses of the modern version of the Škoda 14Tr, the Škoda 14TrM.

From 2004 to 2006 Vilniaus bought troleibusai 45 new, modern and friendly low-floor Solaris Trollino 15 AC on lease.

After the merger with the company UAB Vilniaus autobusai, arose from UAB Vilniaus troleibusai 4 November 2011 UAB Vilniaus viešasis transportas.

11 November 2011 Vilniaus viešasis transportas presented the first Lithuanian and self-produced trolleybus Amber Vilnis 12 AC. The components of the trolleybus come from Belarus, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany. Since early 2012, vehicles of this series are used in regular service.
