Tru64 UNIX

Tru64 UNIX is a commercial UNIX operating system from the UNIX System V family. Based on a Mach microkernel supports the 64 -bit alpha microprocessor architecture. The regular support was hired by HP to 31 December 2012. It includes support for symmetric multiprocessing (SMP ) and for real-time systems.

History

Originally called the operating system ( even as a 32- bit system ) OSF / 1, later it was renamed Digital UNIX (abbreviated DUNIX ) and then received its present name.

Today's Tru64 UNIX variant was developed ( a RISC processor ) from 1993 for the 64 -bit Alpha processor. The Alpha processor was introduced by Digital Equipment (DEC ) ca 1992. With the acquisition of Compaq DEC had taken over the Alpha machines including operating system. Compaq merged in 2002 with Hewlett Packard (HP).

With the operating system version 5 of the Tru64 UNIX cluster technology was acquired by OpenVMS in 2000. With this technology TruCluster this UNIX variant had the possibility that multiple systems ( cluster members ) in common use hard drives and network resources and manage and a common system configuration database is being used.

HP tried to Unix systems Tru64 UNIX and HP- UX to merge, but this project was abandoned in late 2004.

The file system is Tru64 AdvFS ( Advanced File System) are used.

On 23 June 2008, HP has released the source code of the Advanced File System ( AdvFS ) from Tru64 UNIX under the GPL 2.
