Tryphon

Tryphon was a native of Alexandria grammarians. He lived in the second half of the 1st century BC

Where he spent his life, is unknown. Of his numerous, almost exclusively linguistic writings are only sparse remnants, mainly preserved in quotations by other authors. These quotes show the prestige enjoyed his work in the following period. There have been handed over thirty working title from him, including a glossary and treatises on the parts of speech and their derivatives, on pronunciation, intonation, spelling, and the Greek dialects. In Peri tes Pathon LexEOS ( "On variations in language use " ) he tried to derive the differences of dialect forms.

Get Peri is tropone ( On Sense figures), a compilation of 26 tropics with a short definition and examples, presumably an excerpt from a larger work. Other traditional texts, the extract from a grammar and a treatise Peri metron ( About metrical feet ), are now considered spurious.
