Tsaghkadzor

Tsaghkadzor ( Ծաղկաձոր Armenian, Russian Цахкадзор, also Tsaghkadzor ) is a city in Armenia 50 kilometers north of Yerevan in the province of Kotayk.

In the early Middle Ages, the city was the headquarters Varadschnuni family, the forest masters of the Arsacids. Your originates among others, the Byzantine general Philaretos Brachamios. From the 17th century until 1947, it received the name Daratschitschag. During Soviet times, Tsaghkadzor transformed into a modern city. It was expanded to the resort and tourist destination; the status of a city has Tsaghkadzor since 1984. In 2009 the town had 1395 inhabitants.

Tsaghkadzor is located about 1800 meters above sea level at the foot of the 2821 meter high mountain Teghenis and is the Armenian skiing center (season from mid-September to mid-April).

A major attraction is the monastery Kecharis with a domed church from the early 11th century, which is the Armenian National Saint Gregory the Illuminator dedicated.
