Tsarevna Catherine Ivanovna of Russia

Grand Duchess Catherine Ivanovna of Russia (Russian Екатерина Ивановна, .. * 20 Oktoberjul / October 30 1691greg in MoscowJune 14, 1733 ) was a daughter of Tsar Ivan V and Praskovja Feodorovna Saltykowa, oldest sister of Empress Anna of Russia and niece of Peter II. After her marriage she was Duchess of Mecklenburg -Schwerin.

Life

Russian Grand Duchess

Born in Moscow was Grand Duchess Catherine. She was the third-born daughter of Tsar Ivan V and his consort Empress Feodorovna Praskovja Saltykowa. By the death of her older sisters, Maria Ivanovna ( born March 24, 1689 † February 14, 1692 ) and Feodosia Ivanovna (* June 4, 1690, † May 12, 1691 ) was the oldest daughter of the royal pair. It should have been her mother's favorite daughter.

Duchess of Mecklenburg -Schwerin

On April 19, 1716, she married Karl Leopold in Gdansk. The marriage was unhappy, the cantankerous Duke was often rough, sometimes even brutal to his wife. 1722 left Catherine Ivanovna with her daughter, her husband and returned back to Russia forever. The marriage was in 1718 a daughter out: Anna Leopoldovna.
