TT99

TT99 ( Theban Tomb no 99) is the modern name of the grave system of the Treasurer Sennefer ( in Sheikh Abd el- Qurna, Thebes - West), the ancient Egyptian rulers under the Tuthmosis III. ( around 1483 BC to 1425 BC) officiated.

The grave consists of three parts. There is an open atrium, decorated the cult chapel and the underground burial spaces in which the mummy of Sennefer and his grave goods had been housed.

The yard was wide in about 10 m. From there you got into the rock-hewn chambers cult of the tomb. This in turn consisted of a 10 m wide horizontal area, a gear and a rear transverse space, which has two abutments. The cult chambers were once richly painted, but this decoration is now badly damaged. Noteworthy are the remains of a biography in the first transverse hall and the representation of the return from Lebanon, where Sennefer apparently sent an expedition to bring cedar.

In the following passage remains of notable depicting the grave features of Sennefer are obtained. In the rear transverse hall is a funeral and on the back wall pictures of grave Lord and his wife are shown in front of the offering table. Furthermore found in the grave a hymn to Osiris. Are the remains of another biography on the entrance wall of the second transverse hall.

The grave chambers were accessed via a manhole in the chapel, found themselves deprived. The remains show that the grave was used in the Third Intermediate again.

The grave plant has been known since the late 19th century. Systematic excavations were taking place only since 1992.
